Enjoying his first course runners in over five years, David Elsworth landed a 251/1 treble with Llaregyb, Emerging and Dashing Star while his other raider Justice Day was only denied by a head, at Musselburgh Racecourse on 1st June. 443521

The Newmarket trainer said: “It’s a great place and the prize money is good. Obviously I love it on a day like this but there is a real buzz and decent quality racing.”

Elsworth’s treble was completed by Dashing Star, who came from last to first for Liam Keniry in the totepool Edinburgh Gold Cup.

He said: “He’s still a big, raw, green horse and this is all about growing up. He’s going for the Queen’s Vase and I believe he is a really good horse.”

Elsworth initially struck in the opening 8f handicap with Llaregyb under Dane O’Neill, another rare visitor to the East Lothian venue.

Elsworth said: “It’s the first time he has run since we sold him to Hong Kong owner Lee Man Bun. He’s got potential and a tank of a horse. He will be better over 10f but we’ve kept him to a mile as he was doing so well and so much speed.”

Emerging took the totepool.com Tradesman’s Derby to complete a double for Keniry.

Phillip Makin, who rode Sleeper King to victory in the totescoop6 Edinburgh Castle Stakes, was fined £650 for attempting to weigh out wearing a safety vest which had been modified.

He subsequently put up a pound overweight at 8st 12lb before Kevin Ryan’s colt beat Justice Day by a head.

Hambleton-based Ryan said: “I’ve always thought lot of him and he has a fantastic attitude. He’ll go to Royal Ascot where we are favouring the Norfolk Stakes although he may get an entry in the Windsor Castle.”

Jim Goldie’s Rothesay Chancer booked himself a return trip to his favourite track after Graham Lee brought him from well off the pace to nick the sprint handicap by a neck.

“He loves this place and will be back for the big sprint here in a fortnight,” Goldie said.
