Racing in ‘Nottingham Forest’ took place since 1773 but Nottingham Racecourse moved to its present site in 1892. Since then, Colwick Park originally hosted both Flat and Jump racing, before converting to be a Flat-only course in 1996. 43551x

In 1971 Stan Mellor became the first National Hunt Jockey to ride 1000 winners (riding Ouzo in a Novices Chase), and the last ever jump race was won by a young Apprentice jockey named Timmy Murphy who went on to win the Grand National 12 years later.
Move to the Flat 5z39c
Ceasing Jump racing enabled Nottingham Racecourse to reconfigure the course into two Flat tracks, to improve ground conditions and entice the best horses. Since then, it has established a reputation as a track where trainers will introduce Classic hopefuls and in 2008, it hosted the Epsom Spring Meeting including the Classic Trial while Epsom was closed for renovations.
